Curated Since 2013: How 214 Houses Make a List

We do not list everything. We list the ones we would put our own family in.

The Editors

There are thousands of villas in Bali. We list a few hundred, and the number is the message: a list is only useful if something can fail to make it.

Since 2013 the test has not really changed. We have to be able to stand behind the bed, the staff, the water pressure and the answer at eleven at night. If we cannot, it does not go on, however good the photographs are.

That is the whole of the method. Everything else — the concierge, the held dates, the quiet upgrades — follows from listing only what we would book ourselves.

The list is short on purpose. Short is the service.

Tell us the trip in your own words. A curator — not a form — reads every line and replies.

Good to know

How many villas does The Luxury Bali list?

A few hundred hand-picked houses across Bali and beyond — curated since 2013, not an open marketplace.

What gets a villa onto the list?

A villa has to hold up on the things guests actually feel — the bed, the staff, the water, the response time — not just the photos.

How do I get a recommendation?

Message the concierge with your dates, party and the trip you want; a curator replies personally with a shortlist.
