La Brisa Knows About Tides

Why Echo Beach's quietest beach club is the one to plan a whole day around.

Anya Sorel

La Brisa is built from a hundred and twenty old fishing boats. It sits on Echo Beach at the place where the surf opens and closes itself again every six hours, and the staff plan the day around the tides — high tide on the deck, low tide on the sand bar that appears at five.

Lunch is grilled fish, sambal matah, and a glass of something cold. The cocktail list is small. The kitchen is open from noon. The crowd thins by three; arrive after lunch service and the daybeds open.

Avoid weekends. Friday nights belong to the locals; that's their evening. The rest of the week the beach club is exactly what its name promises — a soft wind, a long view, and nothing to do.

We do not have a guest list. We have tides.
