A Sunday at Single Fin

The cliff session that defines a whole stretch of the Bukit peninsula, distilled.

Editor at large

Single Fin has not changed in fifteen years and that is the point. The deck is built straight out of the cliff at Suluban; the music starts at four; the surfers come up the cave steps with the last of the swell on their boards.

The Sunday session is loud. It is also unmistakably Bali — the best surfers, the worst dancers, the longest sunset. The kitchen does pizzas and a respectable nasi goreng. You drink Bintang because that is what you drink.

If you want quiet, come Tuesday at six. The same view, an empty deck, and the same staff who pour your drink without asking.

It is the deck. It is always the deck.

Cliff-edge tables on Sunday are first-come; weekday sunset is a phone call. We make the call.
